Mikhail Svetlov (1903−1964) won readers' hearts with his very first book of poems, published in the 1920s. Romantic in spirit, his poetry is filled with a sense of personal participation in the great events of his time and has a style and a charm of its own. A sage and kindly smile illuminates everything he writes. He is a deeply humanist poet. The poems in this selection include those written at different periods of his life. The book has a foreword and a commentary.
